Eastern Partnership
Eastern Partnership
The Eastern Partnership Program, which was proposed by EU, for the first time was introduced on May 28, 2008 in Brussels. The specified program is the result of efforts by EU member states Poland and Sweden:
The countries engaged in the Partnership Program are: Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and the participants are all 27 member states of EU.
Eastern Partnership assumes higher level of political and economic integration, which provides new opportunities for signing Associated Agreements, including Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements.
Within the framework of the initiative, EU suggests its eastern partners a quite realistic assistance in the implementation of reforms for the establishment of democratic and market economy relations, which will support the partner countries in their efforts of reaching political and economic stability.
The main component of the Program is the establishment of four comprehensive thematic platforms of strategies, which are democracy, effective management and stability; economic integration and compliance with EU policies; energy security and communication between people. These platforms will assist in implementing reforms in partner countries on individual level.
